our slow start to the day

I have to admit, we don’t wake up early around here. We don’t have an alarm or exact time to start our days, but enjoy slow, peaceful mornings. Here is a look into our normal morning rhythm.

After rolling out of bed each morning, I like to read my Bible in the quiet of the morning. After that, I set the table for my children. I lay out their Bibles for them, along with their morning menus. They start by reading their Bible, then doing their menu.

We love menu time in the morning here. It keeps my children quiet and focused on a task while I cook breakfast and get the kitchen ready for the day. It is a simple task for them, and helps them to start the day feeling like they have accomplished something successfully, even before breakfast.

Our menu pages are simple: calendar, what to wear, what’s the weather, season, time, etc. Nothing too difficult or thought provoking, remember, we just woke up! Our morning menu time is a warm up for the day, something to get our brains moving and thinking.

Then: breakfast! After breakfast, we get ourselves ready, do minor chores, then head to the couch for what we call “Morning Time”, although it’s usually mid-morning by that time.

Our couch morning time is mainly our family subjects: Bible, history, science, geography, ASL, reading aloud, and verse memory. Maybe I will touch on what is in our family morning basket in my next post…

If you are interested in our morning menu printable pages, I will link them here! I created them myself, for my children, and then decided to put them in my etsy shop for other homechool moms who want simple menu pages! Hopefully they are a blessing!

How do you start your homeschool day? What do mornings look like in your home? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, I would love to hear from you.

  1. I use the printable morning pages from treehouse schoolhouse too! Even my 4 year old enjoys doing them.
We dont get up early either. Well, some do and some don’t lol!
We start slow, we get dressed and do chores right after a simple breakfast, then the kids play until “morning time” at 10am when they have snacks and we do a Bible song, a Bible story, a read aloud, then short lessons.
In the afternoon, I’ll do handicrafts, music, baking, painting, or folding laundry on different days.
I have to keep it very simply and rhythmic with a toddler around lol!

Sounds very similar to our days here! Those toddlers sure do like to make things interesting, don’t they?! 😉
